FAQ
-
What is a doula?
A doula is a childbirth trained professional that provides emotional, mental, and physical support during pregnancy, labor/birth, and postpartum.
-
Who can use a doula?
Using a doula can benefit anyone pregnant or newly postpartum. This means that you don’t have to be high-risk or low-risk. Doula services can be used for both ends of the spectrum and everything in between.
-
When should I hire a doula?
As early as possible! My schedule books up pretty quickly, as I am limited in the number of clients I can support each month. Plus, the earlier you book me… the more time that we have to get to know one another.
-
What is the benefit of hiring a birth doula?
Statistics show that using a doula can help reduce medical interventions, such as: c-section rates, length of time in labor, use of pitocin, and the request for an epidural.
-
Who can benefit from overnight support?
Families with singletons or twins, recovering from vaginal or cesarean, anyone navigating sleep challenges- reflux, colic, etc.
-
Are you Infant CPR certified?
Yes! I am certified in both adult and infant CPR.
-
What does an overnight doula do?
I provide hands-on support while you get healing rest. This includes feeding, diaper changes, soothing, and getting baby back to sleep.
-
What training do you have?
I have completed several trainings including: PLD birth doula, VBAC Link, Stillbirthday, and Eternal Postpartum.
-
I have a midwife, do I need a doula?
Yes! A midwife is a medical professional. A doula is a support person. As your doula, I will be by your side continuously, focused on physical, mental, and emotional support. Your midwife’s primary focus will be on your medical care.
-
How far do you travel?
I am located in St. Louis, MO and will travel up to an hour any direction, distance surcharge may apply.
-
When do you join me during labor?
The short answer is, when you’re in active labor. But really, it is whenever you are feeling like you need that extra support; whether you are still at home or if you’ve made your way to your birthing location.
-
What if I'm having a c-section?
You can still benefit from using a doula! In most cases, I will be able to accompany you to the operating room. This means that you will still have emotional and mental support during the c-section. And I will be there after the birth to provide support.
